Offline in Time

Love as an idea is eternal and has been explored universally in probably all forms of communication, love is a life force of great power, not as inevitable as death and taxes but a prime driver behind much which propels us.
“We the mortals touch the metals,
the wind, the ocean shores, the stones,
knowing they will go on, inert or burning,
and I was discovering, naming all the these things:
it was my destiny to love and say goodbye.”
Pablo Neruda
My film is about the journey we take with love at different times in our lives. It is also a comment on the physical, interactive nature of love and how difficult on-line communication works on a deeper level.  Love is about the touch, the gesture and the gaze, words are secondary, they are a consolidating element, but can often interfere with the natural flow of love.
Words are only painted fire; a look is the fire itself
Mark Twain
The three vignettes are independent , but could be viewed as a continuum of the same love; young love, experienced love and enduring love.  Young love is all about the look, the touch, the physical, nothing matters or dampens the ardour of youth. Experienced love is more mature, maybe a little more wary, there needs to be a tenderness to help the communication, to soften an older harder heart.  Enduring love is about the good, the bad and the ugly, rolling with the highs and lows and hanging on. The overall look I wanted was of something past, like distant memories and the flickering old camera layer I think gives the film a unifying quality.
I wanted to keep the shots relatively simple, with a single message each; Young love has the glowing  heart shape shaped by the couples touching hands with CC Light Rays and CC toner to wash the colours out and Curves to heighten the light quality, these effects were applied to all films. Middle Love(Love at the Dove)has already been discussed in Assignment 1 blog.  Enduring love took some time due to the trial and error with the heart shape in the fog at the end, it was a combination of a masks and a generated ramp with screen.  The fog transitions was made using fractal noise, vector blur and lots of duplicating with rotation. Finally the titles were given the CC Drizzle effect.
